Internal Investigations
AEL brings to bear our decades’ long experience as federal prosecutors and in-house counselors to conduct efficient, independent investigations for healthcare concerns, committees of corporate boards, and individuals. We have conducted dozens of sensitive internal audits and gap analyses for healthcare providers related to alleged healthcare fraud and billing improprieties, compliance program violations, and breaches of institutional policies and procedures. And we have prepared and handled voluntary disclosures to regulators across a wide-range of regulatory frameworks — including the New York State Office of Medicaid Inspector General’s (OMIG) self-disclosure process, the HHS-OIG Provider Self Disclosure Protocol, the CMS Voluntary Self-Referral Disclosure Protocol, and to the Department of Justice.
While we are expert in the substantive legal and regulatory issues implicated in high-stakes internal investigations for healthcare clients, we are acutely aware of the political and optical issues that also accompany such reviews. As a result, we strive to conduct our queries with the utmost discretion and commitment to confidentiality.
